Web Dev and er.. um...Internet Marketing

I am going back through my Microsoft Project Templates and editing them. Next week I am officially rolling out interactive development timeline templates that integrate analytics, SEO, banners etc. (the artifacts of internet marketing) into the olde web development methodology.

In the late 90's web development was so easy. vivid studios captures the iconic methodology on their old site.

The issue is that web development teams need to be reminded to integrate the work of analytics and internet marketing into the Concept and Planning phases as well as throughout the Design and Development Phases. It's not just a UX world anymore. There is a whole new list of deliverables, documents and so on for the web project manager and client services people to attend to. So here we are working new fragments into the overall development timelines.

It may seem like an obvious point. Too dumb for a post. But it is a significant shift of the cosmos if you have been doing web development for the past decade or so.... I am seeing this updating being done NOW in at least one of the top 5 US agencies. Last year internet marketing work was done alongside web design.

But now it it making its way into the methodology diagrams and the MPP templates - and implicitly for the first time - it is being integrated as a routine into the requirements definition and initial prototyping discussions.
